Get Sexy Probiotic Smoothie

I have the most sensitive stomach/gut. When my stomach is upset, the rest of my body feels it. I tend to break out, feel overly exhausted, grumpy or even just plain old fat and gross. Yes, I said but I know you feel me. One thing that always helps me feel balanced and ready to take on anything are some handy dandy probiotics. I’m talking about some sexy good bacteria to balance out the bacteria that already exists in your body.

In case you didn’t already know, 70 percent of our immune system exists in our guts? It’s pretty amazing how either taking probiotic supplements or eating good ol’ fashioned full fat plain cultured yogurt can do wonders for your immunity, preventing and treating diarrhea (and even constipation- at least I know it works for me), maintaining healthy lady parts (yup, yogurt is good for the vag). You can get lo down on the goods right here. If you’re not digging yogurt or kefir, you can get your probiotics from fermented foods like pickles or kimchi (though not recommended in this smoothie) or you can always use a capsule of a raw probiotic supplement (this is my favorite) and take with water or add to your dairy free yogurt.

For those days when I’m not feeling my best, this smoothie really brings out the sexiness. It has spinach (think plant based protein, iron and folate), blueberries (loaded with antioxidants, fat fighting powers, and keeps your alert), banana and lactose free kefir. You may always swap out the kefir with dairy free cultured yogurt (check out Anita’s) if you’d like.

What you need: 

  • 1 cup of baby spinach
  • 1/2 cup plain full fat kefir (lactose free) or dairy free cultured yogurt
  • 1 cup frozen or fresh blueberries
  • 1 ripe banana
  • coconut water, optional (add as much or as little as you would like for varied thickness)
  • optional garnish: hemp seeds, chia seeds, blueberries

How you make it:

  1. In a high speed blender, add kefir and spinach. Blend on high for 30 seconds.
  2. Add blueberries and bananas and blend until fully combined and creamy.
  3. Enjoy.

Fair warning, you may have to poop after drinking this smoothie. And that’s a good thing. It’s sexy to have great bowel movements and feel free! Just saying 😉
